Early hydration of belite-ye’elimite-ferrite cements: Role of admixtures

The effect of TIPA and CaCl2 on early hydration, i.e. 24 h, a B-BYF cement has been studied by in situ synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction, calorimetry, thermal analysis, NMR, rheological measurements the pastes mechanical strength corresponding mortars. addition 0.05 %bwc (by weight cement) reduced viscosity paste during first minutes hydration but, after end induction period, ∼7 it favored formation AFt compared to reference paste. latter is likely due acceleration dissolution amorphous aluminates sulfates presence TIPA. These results correlate with increase ∼169% 1-day strengths. 2.0 accelerated rate ye’elimite, causing an amount precipitated ettringite even before which shorted ∼6 h. strengths mortars this admixture outperforms that mortar 181%. Finally, ferrite α’H-belite reactivities were not affected any these admixtures h cement.
